Generally improved: Usually the symptoms of ibd get better or stay the same. It is rare that they get worse.

May worsen disease: Activity of uc and cd at time of conception greatly predicts disease course. If in remission, most stay in remission (2/3) where as 1/3 will flare. Disease that is active during conception usually does not go into remission during the course of pregnancy and may even get worse.
