Very rarely: First, you need the right diagnosis. Some "heartburn" is from gallstones, ulcers, poor blood flow to the heart, abnormally slow emptying of the stomach, tumors or growths blocking the stomach or intestines, poor squeezing of the esophagus, a bacterial infection of the stomach, or many other causes. None of these will be helped by over-the-counter "heartburn" medications. Get checked out!
