TMJ Treatment: Anti-inflammatory medications, warm moist compresses on the outside of your face over your jaw joints, soft diet, no gum chewing, relaxation techniques to reduce stress, bite adjustments and a night guard are some palliative treatments for TMJ problems. You need to consult with a dentist for an individual evaluation and appropriate treatment for you specific situation.

Pain Killers: Obviously pain killers help reduce pain, but TMJ pain may need more then just pain killers, you may need an occlusal guard, dental treatment, physical therapy, muscle relaxants, anti inflammatory medications, diet counceling etc... Talk to your treating doctor, each case is different hope you feel better.

A few things: Depends on symptoms, and cause of symptoms. 3 signs of TMJ dysfunction: joint noises, joint pain & limited oral opening. Self treat with soft diet, jaw exercises, massage, heat/cold, OTC pain meds. A splint or physical therapy would be next. Occasionally muscle relaxants, biofeedback. Xrays are done for diagnosis. Surgery usually reserved for serious symptoms not responsive to other treatments.
