Papillae overgrowth: Hairy tongue is a benign condition of the tongue marked by elongation and often staining of the filiform papillae on the top surface of the tongue. Good oral hygiene including daily brushing of your tongue with a tongue brush or tongue scraper which can be purchased at local pharmacies and supermarkets will help prevent or control this.
