Several: You can use prostaglandins like cervidil. You can use pitocin (oxytocin). You can use extra-amniotic saline infusion.

Lots of ways: Pitocin (oxytocin) is a medication that mimics a hormone in your body to start contractions. Cervidil and Cytotec are prostaglandins that soften the cervix and may start some contractions that are used when your cervix is less open. Some doctors use a catheter that manually opens the cervix a little as well. It depends on why you are being induced and how your cervix is to start.

Are there safe ways to naturally induce labor?

Nature or not: Induction of labor is recommended when a pregnancy needs to be delivered for medical reasons. Providers use medications soften the cervix and contractions to start. All methods have risks, and "natural" methods can be just as risky as medication unless you are being monitored by your physician. If you are concerned and you need induction, talk to your doctor about what your options are.

Labor: If you could bring on labor then the secrete would be out there and women would love it. Always remember the baby is part of the equation and sends a signal to the mom when it is time to come out. Part of the increase in Cesarean section rate is from inductions when it is not time.
