A member asked:

What does it mean when you see white discharge when you cough?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

White cough is mucus: Whenever you cough, mucus in your airways and lungs is being brought up (expectorated). The color indicates cells are present in your mucus. Try drinking plenty of fluids, maybe add an expectorant, such as Guaifenesin (mucinex). Unless you are experiencing other symptoms, white mucus is ok.
