Persistent High BP: About 90% of kidney transplant recipients have hypertension after the transplant. However, nearly all patients with kidney failure on dialysis have hypertension. This is not restricted to those who have lost their kidney function to uncontrolled hypertension. The reasons are many and include long-term damage to the blood vessels and heart, as well as drugs that cause retention of salt.
