Should not hurt: Swallowing saliva shouldn't hurt. If you are having pain with such movements...You could have a sore throat or streph throat. You don't say you have trouble with anything else, besides saliva. Go see a dentist or md and get your throat and surrounding structures looked at.

Is it only saliva?: If it hurts to swallow, then you may have a sore throat. See your physician who can prescribe an antibiotic if necessary feel better soon..
