Nice, not necessary: An automatic external defibriillator (AED) is important for cardiac arrest situations, however it is not practical for every home to have one unless you or your family members are at increased risk. Aeds cost about $1000-$1200, battery needs to be replaced every 5 years ($90-$110) and the pads (adult & pediatric) need to be replaced every 18-24 months ($100 each).
