A member asked:

How do you treat a sprained thumb?

Dr. Mark Hutchinson answered

Specializes in Orthopedic Surgery

Depends: Probably needs to be checked due to unusual fractures at the base of the thumb that may need surgery or ligament injuries that can become chronic. If the thumb is stable then using a thumb spica splint is usually adequate.
