Do rotator cuff injuries heal naturally?

Rotator Cuff injury: Rotator cuff tears are either partial or full thickness. If the tear is not painful and there is not significant weakness then no surgery needs to be done. Rotator cuff tears do not usually heal naturally. You can get some scarring back down, but that is not predictable. Patients not electing for surgery usually recover with pt, but that is more for partial tears.

Depends: Many rotator cuff problems are the result of repetitive, over use injuries. This results in imbalance of the muscles of the shoulder and scapula which leads to altered function. Ice, anti-inflammatory medications and physical therapy do resolve this most of the time. Yes, a cortisone injection can help. If there is a fall or trauma and a full thickness tear, will not heal on its own.

It depends: Many people have degenerative rotator cuff tears as we mature. Non operative conservative treatment should be the first line of treatment. This often consists of NSAIDS, injection, and physical therapy. If conservative treatment fails or if an acute traumatic tear, operative treatment may be warranted. Ask your orthopaedic surgeon for more details. Good luck

Possible.: It's possible for them to heal naturally if it's a strain to the rotator cuff muscle or tendon. If the tendon is torn away from the bone, then it probably will not heal naturally.
