See below: Sickle cell and beta thalassemia are not fully expressed unil about 6-9 months of age. This makes the birth and early infancy typically problem-free. They will perform testing that will show the sickle cell and perhaps the thalassemia. These are done at birth and repeated at around 2 weeks of age. You should see a specialist. This should be managed at a comprehensive sickle cell center.
