Maybe: At age 40, clots could be due to hormonal changes, or they could be due to a fibroid in the uterus or cervix, or a polyp in the uterus or cervix. Without an ultrasound it's not really possible to determine why you passed the clots. Any woman your age with heavy bleeding, however, needs to see a physician to be evaluated for a possible uterine biopsy. See an ob/gyn.
