Why is hyperbaric oxygen treatment used for gangrene?

Hyperbaric oxygen: Hyperbaric oxygen treatment is a process where a person is placed in a room or chamber with high pressurized 100% oxygen. This delivers high levels of oxygen to the person and can be used to treat slow or difficult to heal wounds like diabetic or infected wounds. It can be a means to improve healing, to try to prevent the loss of an extremity, or treat serious wound sepsis.

Two types, O2 helps: There are 2 types of gangrene - wet and dry - both serious conditions. The root cause of wet gangrene is anaerobic bacteria, which cause intense suppuration (pus). Anaerobes cannot live in high oxygen environments, which hbot provides. Dry gangrene is usually seen in diabetics with poor circulation. Hbot delivers oxygen without relying on circulation, healing those mixed aerobic=anaerobe wounds.
