Results Vary: Propecia (finasteride) can be effective in male pattern baldness, but works much better if started early in the balding process. However, not all patients respond. This drug can cause birth defects and women of child bearing age should not even handle Propecia (finasteride) tablets. Also, if treatment is stopped, any re-grown hair will fall out. Many insurance companies do not cover Propecia (finasteride) prescriptions.
