Yes and No: Bleeding during pregnancy is mostly abnormal. Early on in pregnancy, it can be a sign of a miscarriage in progress or early signs of miscarriage. Later on in pregnancy, bleeding can signify abnormalities in the placenta, blood vessels around the placenta, or even premature separation of the placenta. Bleeding just prior to delivery is called a bloody show and is considered normal.
