Strengthening: Most rehab protocols for knees involve stretching an strengthening of the quad muscles (front of thigh). These muscles combine to form the thick band of ligaments that go over the kneecap and stabilize the joints.

Ligament Sprain: Rehab of a ligament sprain depends on which ligament/ligaments are involved and to what extent they are sprained. For complete tears of the ligament rest and immobilization may be the initial treatment for up to 6 weeks depending of the ligament injured. May also require surgery to expect return to previous activity maintaining knee stability.
