Stoppage of flow: Aneurysm expands while receiving blood flow - most of the time slowly. To decrease the risk of ongoing expansion and eventual rupture - a bypass divert the flow to aneurysm to reduce the risk. More commonly, aneurysm is resected and the artery is reconstructed with vein or prosthetic graft. Nowadays, sometimes a stent graft is appropriate in place of traditional surgery.
