Warts & HPV: Warts are caused by an infection with a virus called human papilloma virus (hpv). There are a number of different subtypes of hpv, and the different types are associated with different types of warts. For example, common warts that we get on our hands are caused by one hpv subtype while genital warts are assocaited with other hpv subtypes.
