Tough question: Most knee injuries occur despite all the training that we do to prevent injuries. However, quad strengthening and overall conditioning can slightly decrease chances of injury.

Preventive measures: The knee is relatively weak joint held together by ligaments (medial & lateral collateral; anterior & posterior cruciate) so it's prone to injuries when forces are applied from directions not protected by ligaments (e.g. From side; torquing). Strengthening the muscle groups around the knee (quadriceps, hamstrings) helps prevent injuries; wearing knee pads during sports helps. Don't torque knee.
