Yes: They are usually positive by 10 days after intercourse. They have a low false negative rate. They are much more accurate than they used to be.

Sometimes may be: The sensitivity of home pregnancy tests may vary from brand to brand; sensitivity may also be better with a concentrated, first-void morning specimen. Under best conditions they may turn positive as soon as around the time of the missed period or two weeks after conception. If conditions are not ideal it may take a week or two longer.
