A member asked:

Are liver biopsies for people with psoriatic arthritis extremely painful?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Psorisis: Presumably the liver biopsy is being done prior to the use of a medication such as methotrexate. Liver biopsy should not be painful for anyone but can be. A local anesthetic is used to "numb" the area. In some instances the medication may not be completely effective or discomfort may be experienced after the procedure when the effect of the anesthetic has "worn off.".
