Retinoschsis: If x-linked, an affected male gets the disorder from his unaffected carrier mother. In x-linked retinoschisis, small cysts form in the macula which causes central vision loss. Males are usually identified with the disorder by grade school. Unfortunately, there is no treatment except glasses or other visual aids. Total visual loss does not occur, but some may become legally blind.
