Weeks: It takes weeks for the foot wound to heal and before it is safe to put full weight on the amputated foot. If you need a foot amputation in the first place that means you have poor circulation and this will make the healing prices take longer. It is safest to wait for complete healing before resuming normal activity.

Why it is done: Healing in a foot amputations will be slow. If amputation is done on a normal healthy person like after a injury will heal with in 6 wk, but most of the foot amputations are done on diabetics, with poor circulation due to peripheral vascular diseases , with infections including gangrene of toes , will take months to heal.

Nutrition: In addition to all of the issues pertaining to appropriate vascular supply the patient needs to have excellent nutrition. This is sometimes overlooked in these difficult cases. Without proper nutrition any wound with the best blood flow will have a hard time healing.
