Venous stasis ulcer: Any opening in the skin can weep especially those in the lower extremity where fluid accumulates during the day as you walk. Compression is the key to closing the wound. You should seek help from your local wound care center group of professionals.

Multifactorial: The weeping is from lymphatic leakage. Compression therapy will help with this but the cause of the venous insufficiency has to be addressed as well. This is a very complex problem that requires the attention of a vascular surgeon with a special interest in venous disease.

CDT: Complex decongestive therapy is multilayer bandage over the ulcer. You need ulcer treatment with strips of unna boot, webril (undercast padding) kerlix wrap and ace wrap which can be changed once in 3 days. Without multilayer wrap the area will continue to weep.

Need to to both: Short term: adequate and properly applied compression will reduce the drainage and get the ulceraton to close faster. Long term: need to address the underlying pathology and take action to help prevent recurrances. Long term: compression stockings, regardless of having surgical intervention or not.

Natural Process: When there is injury to our skin, inflammation occurs which means the area becomes red, warm, tender and with swelling. The swelling occurs under the skin layers and then can leak out of an open wound. The fluid contains water, protein, electrolytes and cells that give it color. This is a natural process and aids in healing. As it heals, the drainage will decrease. Keep it covered.

Compression: The most important treatment to a venous stasis ulcer is compression wrap or hose. The compression of the wrap must sufficient to counterbalance the underlying venous hypertension. The venous hypertension vhtn is the cause of the weeping and ulcer. Vhtn pressure is the result of gravity and faulty valves.Once proper compression is applied weeping and proper wound care is applied weeping will stop.
