A member asked:

Does a persistent wet feeling mean that my fluid is leaking?

No: The real answer is maybe. Amniotic fluid causes wetness. So can vaginal discharge or cervical mucus which can be thin at the end of pregnancy, causing a wet feeling. It is also normal to leak urine when the baby presses on the bladder. Any time you have a persistent wet feeling you should let your doctor know so they can do an exam to confirm whether your water has broken or not.

No: In the second half of your pregnancy, a new onset of wetness should be evaluated by your obstetrician. The answer cannot be given with certainty without an examination to evaluate the situation. If, after that, you are reassured, remember that any change in the amount of the wetness needs reevaluation.
