Go see the doc: She should discuss her recent bloodwork with her primary care physician. The question about diabetes could probably be answered with those results. Postassium is not the main issue with diabetics; glucose levels are. With regards to her toenails, bring her to a podiatrist to have them checked. It may be coming off because of diet but also may have had trauma or an infection. See the doc!

Maybe: In diabetes, there is can be increased thirst and urination, causing her to lose potassium in the urine. Low potassium might cause nail abnormalities due to reduced oxygen and nutrient delivery (due to less efficient respiration). Low potassium, or hypokalemia can have serious health consequences. Seek medical attention.
