Cart before horse: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a remarkable well-tolerated drug, although not side-effect free. It is relatively quite safe without cumulative use-associated drug toxicity. Mucinex (guaifenesin) however, although generally safe, may cumulatively result in uric acid kidney stones. Taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) more than 2 or 3 times weekly may lead to loss of sleep induction.
