18 or 14: Depends on the issue. For general medical issues the age is 18 years. For issues involving sex, drugs, alcohol, mild psych issues, smoking, or pregnancy, the age is 14 years old in most states. Varies with State: Where i live, a minor who can prove s/he lives separately & without parental support can be declared an emancipated minor at 16 & gain the same status as an adult.Some states have other requirements. Most hospitals & physicians try to incorporate the questions & concerns of the patients from as young as they can communicate them clearly. But parents generally will have the final say.
