This is expected: Often, after certain conditions are excluded (blood tests and sometimes a sonogram), this medicine, which is a type of pregesterone, is given to cause the entire uterine lining to shed at once. If it was determined that this was appropriate, you will likely have another "period" after quitting the medicine, and then go back to having regular periods in the future.
