A member asked:

What is the recovery period for an cardioeversion (which i'm assuming is the same as a shock treatment) and is this done on an outpatient basis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Outpatient procedure: This is generally done as outpatient. Go to sleep for a few seconds, cardiovert, then wake up. There is a little residual chest soreness which is related to the spasm of the chest muscles that occurs with the shock, but this is recovered as an outpatient. It may be treated with Acetaminophen or a non steroidal anti inflammatory.
