Helps a little: Carmex will speed up the healing a little by keeping the site moist an a little protected. If anything, it may help it feel better.

Cold sores: You can never completely get rid of cold sores. The virus lives inside your body and they surface whenever your body goes under stress, whether its extreme cold or emotional stress. Most over the counter medication claim to reduce the duration of the sore which is normally around 7 days. There are also proscription medication which are given in more severe outbreaks.

Several other ideas: You may want to see your dentist for a prescription if you develop cold sores often. Naturally oriented patients take lysine orally, but the medication will help you to move thru the duration of the cold sore a bit more quickly & easily. If this re-occurs often you may wish to find a dentist who treats these lesions with a laser. My patients experience when I use laser treatments is excellent.

No: Cold sores are due to a virus. Expect 10-14 days before it resolves itself.
