Not normal, nor rare: Many (if not most) early pregnancies experience some spotting in the first trimester. That is not desirable nor normal, however it is usually inconsequential. Take Folic Acid 1-5 mg daily, observe some pelvic rest (i.e. No intercourse, nothing per vaginam) and see your obstetrician to determine pregnancy's health/viability via ultrasound imaging.
