Many possible causes: Could be caused by trauma (a small break in the skin resulting from sex). Also, can be the start of a menstrual period. Other common causes, which may require a doctor's exam, are infection (even a mild yeast infection), cervical inflammation, benign growths on the cervix (polyps). If persistent, an exam is important to investigate more serious problems. Occasionally, pregnancy is found this way.
