What exactly is rheumatology?

Autoimmune diseases: Rheumatology is a subspecialty of internal medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of systemic autoimmune diseases.

Rheumatic Disease : The study of rheumatic diseases which include arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, soft tissue diseases, immunologic diseases, osteoporosis, back pain, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, connective tissue diseases to name a few. There are over 100-150 rheumatic diseases.

Inflammation: It's the study of diseases of the body that usually have inflammation as a main manifestation. Most of the diseases we treat affect the stuff that makes the body together: bones, muscles, joints, and blood vessels. We treat a variety of illnesses including arthritis, lupus, gout, as well as more rare conditions.

Rheumatology is the study of arthritis and other diseases of the joints, muscles, and bones, including those that are inflammatory and autoimmune in nature.
