A member asked:

I have had four alphafetoprotein tests: 16.2, 17.4, 19.0, 19.5 can you have elevated afp and be disease free?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Is your AFP level : Elevated?. What is the normal range for the lab doing your test? Why were you tested? AFP may be elevated in a woman carrying a child with spina bifida, or in person with liver disease and or liver tumors, and in some genital tumors. See this site for more info. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003573.htm.
