A wide spectrum Pts.: This is an inflammatory muscle disease, with slowly progressive weakness and wasting of both distal and proximal muscles, most notably of the arms and legs. Because this randomly affects different people in different ways and at different rates, there is no "textbook case." there are two kinds, sporadic and hereditary. The hereditary case does not have inflammation and is thus not myositis.
