It is variable.: Bleeding can last 6-8 weeks after delivery then periods may return within a few weeks of that. However, breastfeeding delays return of menstrual cycles for most women and they may not get a period for several months after stopping nursing. Some women will get monthly cycles even while breastfeeding.
