Talk to your doctor: Stopping antidepressants can be easy for some but horrible for others. The best thing to do is talk with your doctor for a plan in weaning down. There is no one size fits all solution.

More than 1 issue: Stopping Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) is best done by tapering with your physician's guidance, as dr. Larsh recommends. But it's very important to be sure that the prescribed-for condition is no longer a problem, first. In many people, depression is a long-standing or recurrent condition. For these, medication is often used in a preventative way. Best thing is a good relationship with your doctor, & working together.

Taper or switch: Suddenly stopping short half life ssri (paxil) & snri (pristiq, effexor, (venlafaxine) cymbalta) antidepressants after long term treatment with them (regardless of whether treatment was successful) can be miserable. Stopping should be supervised by a physician. The simplest is to switch to Prozac (which has an extremely long half-life) for a few days then if there are no problems, stop the prozac.

Pristiq (desvenlafaxine): Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) belongs to a group of meds called ssri. In order to avoid withdrawal it has to be weaned off during 4-6 weeks, slowly increasing the amount of days that you do not take it, for instance, within 2 weeks to take it every other day, then within 2 weeks to take it every 3 days, e.C.
