Get him help...: "normal" bowel frequency in america ranges (in a bell-curve distribution) from 3/day to 1/3-4 days. Your friend's son is clearly outside the bell curve. Lots of possibilities here, particularly based on the age of the child. If the history is accurate, then at the very least a physical exam with digital rectal check & a belly x-ray will likely be performed so appropriate treatment can be offered.
