Developmental guide: Kids under 6-7 are very basic & unlikely to process any "reasoning" answer. The tooth fairy crowd are better with short & simple answers repeated as needed.By 8-10 basic reasoning is possible, by 14-17 the adult explanation can be processed. A simple "he got real sick & died" should work for most at that age. If he is processing at a higher level, add " bad germ " to the info.
