Lupus etc: As a lab doctor, I am forever remind people that the history and physical mean far more than the numbers. If the ANA is high-titer, and the pattern is speckled, it suggests any of a host of "connective tissue diseases"; ch50 and the others monitor the activity of lupus. Since no one knows what lupus really is, the labs are only a small part of the picture and the decision to rx may be a joint one.
