which types of birth control are for women over 40?

Dr. Miguel Cano

Depends: For normal cycles, almost any contraceptive is available for a healthy, non-smoking 40 year old. If cycle control is needed, sometimes ocps, depo-provera, or Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud works best. If she is done with child-bearing; something permanent like laparoscopic tubal ligation, essure, or male vasectomy is available. Check with your doc to see which is best for you. Take care.
