Nothing more than ..: Local pain at the injection site. Very infrequently, some individuals who get too many tetanus shot experience serum sickness-like symptoms, e.g., fever, joint swelling, and rash.

Pain and redness: You can't get the tetanus alone in the usa. For adults and older kids, it's given as the td (tetanus and diphtheria) or the tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis). Side effects of the td include pain, redness or swelling, mild fever in 1 out of 15, and occasional headache. Rarely you can get higher fever and arm swelling. With the tdap, these side effects are more pronounced and more common.
