Several issues: Asymptomatic carriage of the germ can be passed from a carrier mom to baby & persist for about 2yrs. Some will develop eye infections or pneumonia in the first 2mo. Spontaneous resolution of early carriage usually occurs. Infections are not known to pass from child to child. The possibility of sexual abuse is considered when genital infection is acquired after infancy.
