Depends: This depends on your comfort with the risk of letting the kid get wild chickenpox.In its day 50 kids/yr died & 10000 were hospitalized in the us with complications. The vaccine has almost eliminated both. We still have small outbreaks among un-immunized kids, often from cases brought into the area from overseas or immigrant populations..
