What is given for a penicillin allergy?

Dr. Lee Perry answered

Depends on reaction: In the acute setting, a severe reaction to penicillin might be treated with injectable epinephrine, steroids or benadryl (diphenhydramine). Otherwise, there is no treatment for penicillin allergy other than avoidance. If you have an infection that requires penicillin despite the history of allergy, a penicillin desensitization can be performed.

Allergic reaction: If severe allergic reaction occurs , and is life threatening , In the ER epinephrine is drug of choice. Otherwise antiallergic, and steroid may help too.

Well: Not sure of your question. You can be desensitized but rather risky. You can always avoid pen and be treated with other antibiotics
