Vocal cord dysfuncti: Many things, this generally refers to vocal cords that close instead of open on inspiration. Reflux, sinus infections, allergy and other conditions have all been implicated. There does not appear to be one cause.

Have thyroid exam : Goiter (enlarged thyroid) can damage nerve to vocal cords causing voice change, laryngeal cancer, and head/neck cancers can cause compression to trachea, invasion to nerve causing damage as well. Need appropriate exam.
