Up to Six Months: Recovery from a rotator cuff that has been repaired surgically typically takes up to 6 months. The tendon heals to bone slowly, and at 3 months, that repair interface is only 20% as strong as normal ! most surgeons start range of motion exercises right away, however delay strengthening to the 3 month time point. It takes a few months longer to truly get your strength and endurance back.

Highly variable: Rotator cuff tears come in many varieties. Full recovery is dependent upon the location, size, and time from injury to repair. Acute small tears heal much faster after repair than larger tears that have been present for an extended period of time. Expect healing in 3 months for smaller acute tears and 6 months for larger older tears as a good general guideline.
