Flaking lead paint: Soil around old houses contains flakes of house paints that used to contain lead. Children get lead poisoning by eating dirt/soil contaminated with lead.

Contaminated soil: Soil can be contaminated by painchips off houses when prepared for repainting. Contamination can also occur from chemical and leather tanning plants. When children play in the soiltheir hands pick up the contaminated soil and if they mouth their hands, they ingest the lead.
